Jiminy Cricket!

Look over here! I found this guy toddling across the path in Norfolk at the Mass Audubon Sanctuary, almost missing him since he was blending into the shadows and dirt. This was the best I could do before he disappeared. Always found them fascinating as they hide between rocks and other nooks and crannies.

While I'm speaking of crickets, here are some facts about them:

––They are omnivores that eat flowers, plants, seeds and other insects like aphids

––Sound is made by rubbings its wings against each other, which is how I found this one

––Species like the mole cricket can severely alter a lawn with its burrows that can hurt the root system underneath

––It lives for about 3 months so it's possible this individual is still alive! I took this photo earlier in the season

––In Southeast Asia, they are known to be kept as pets
